Nokian Tyres summer trainee experiences 2023
Summers are exciting times at Nokian Tyres: that’s when summer trainees join us to share their unique skills and knowledge in various departments, bringing with them new ideas and a compelling drive to learn more. Let’s take a look back at the summer of 2023: what kinds of highlights did trainees gather from their summer journeys?
"The first reason why I wanted to work at Nokian Tyres was that a large company has plenty of opportunities to move between departments, advance in your career, and find interesting work, all of which has come true during my summer job,” said Jenni who worked in the Heavy Tyres tire technology department.
"I have a better understanding of how the efforts of different departments help each other and take the company toward its goals. It has also been interesting to see what is considered in the construction and design of a zero CO2 emission factory in Oradea. People at Nokian Tyres clearly invest in environmental issues and work hard for them," said Matilda from the sustainability team.
Onboarding for success
"My onboarding was very clear, with one colleague as my inductor. With them, I quickly became part of the work community and team," said Marja from the AR & CC team. "At first, the work involved a lot of learning, which was made easier by the chance for close contact with nice and flexible colleagues who offered help with any questions."
Lumi, who worked automation, said, "The work community and atmosphere at Nokian Tyres is very receptive. Even with quieter and more independent tasks, there is always someone to talk with, at the latest during your coffee break."
"The work was very pleasant and fully my thing, with a nice mix of challenging and routine work,” said Pauliina from finance. Topias had a similar experience: “The turn of the month was the busiest time for the team. Luckily, we always supported each other and handled it with a good feeling.”
Freedom to share new ideas
"At Nokian Tyres, you get to develop your own expertise as well as the work and its various processes. There is a very open atmosphere for new ways of doing things, and new ideas are welcomed with joy. There are good people working here – it was nice to interact with people from many different departments," said Juuli from HR.
"Being a trainee at Nokian Tyres fulfilled my expectations and the summer was awesome. The best things were the work environment and the people, the clarity and versatility of tasks, and the atmosphere,” said Emma from the Accounts Payable team.
Maija went on to say, “The summer was very educational and the people super nice. I got the chance to bear responsibility and the room to find the best ways to work for myself. All in all, the summer was really rewarding,”
Taking experiences and learnings further
After summer, trainees often go on to continue their studies. Sometimes, though, a summer job is just the kick-start you need for an exciting career.
"After the summer, I’m now working as a Sales & Logistics Specialist in Nokian Heavy Tyres' customer service,” said Jonna. “My work experience during two summers as a logistics coordinator in raw material import prepared me well for my new tasks. I play a key role in communicating information between stakeholders, process customer orders, and respond to availability inquiries globally. My task is to understand the tire ordering supply chain as a whole, and ensure that customers receive the desired products at the desired time.”
“What makes my work particularly interesting is that I can now deepen my understanding of the comprehensive use of raw materials all the way to the finished product. It’s rewarding to have new and different responsibilities. I feel that we at Nokian Tyres have a good spirit of doing things, and that everyone's career development is supported.”
