Focus on niche product segments

Pioneer in special tires

The Heavy Tyres business unit (Heavy Tyres Ltd) develops and manufactures special tires for trucks and heavy machinery. We focus on niche product segments, which has made us pioneers in special tires – particularly in the field of forestry.

In addition to forestry tires, our core products include tires for ports and terminals and mining, agriculture, trucks and buses, and other heavy uses, such as earthmoving and road maintenance. Nokian Tyres branded tires are known for their high quality, which translates to long life and safety under demanding conditions.

Market areas

Nokian Tyres’ heavy tires are sold in both the original equipment and replacement markets. Nearly half of our sales is generated from manufacturer-installed tires. The main market areas are the Nordic countries, Central Europe and North America.

Nearly all heavy tires are manufactured in our factory in Nokia, Finland. Tires for trucks and buses are manufactured by manufacturing partners in the EU.

Forestry tires lead the way – strong investments in other product segments as well

The demand for forestry tires has been boosted by the mechanization of harvesting around the world, making them our best-selling items for decades. Nokian Heavy Tyres has made continuous investments in other product segments, as well, and especially the share of agricultural tires in our total sales is now increasing rapidly.

Nokian Tyres agricultural tires are gentle on the environment, and increase work efficiency and fuel savings.

Our long-term vision is that all our heavy tires will have value-adding digital services to build more informed, safer, more efficient and economical work. This vision is coming to life through our smart tires: wireless and machine-independent, the Nokian Tyres Intuitu tire pressure and temperature monitoring system uses in-built sensors and a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone.

Our harbor and mining tires are designed to withstand extreme wear and tear. These tires are used, for example, in reach stackers, straddle carriers, RTG cranes, mine loaders and drill rigs and supporting machinery to mines.

Customer needs, tailored services and interaction are the key terms in our operating policies. The long-term co-operation with leading machine manufacturers has generated solid know-how and a thorough understanding of the customers' needs. Products that are proven to work in Nordic conditions impress their users all over the world.

Towards stronger distribution and increased capacity

The target is to grow heavy tires sales to EUR 400 million by 2027. This is accomplished by strengthening the distribution in Central Europe and North America, increasing capacity, expanding the product portfolio, especially with forestry and agricultural machinery tires and truck tires, and digital development.

Customers value functional, cost-efficient tires. Economic hourly usage costs and high utilisation rates of tires and machines outweigh low purchasing prices.
