LOCATION

The location in Ivalo, Finnish Lapland with more than 200 days with freezing temperatures in Ivalo each year make for rough conditions for tire testing.

With more than 20 tracks covering about 700 hectares, we do on average 200 test runs weekly during the season.

LONG HISTORY

Opened in the 1986, the Ivalo testing center has grown to become the world’s largest and most diverse winter testing environment for tires.

Our Ivalo test center, often called “White Hell”, is where we, the northernmost tire manufacturer in the world, test our winter, all season and all weather tires. During the freezing days from November to April, we have some 15 people working at track making sure our tires are thoroughly tested.

The test center has really earned its tough reputation, as the world’s largest and most diverse winter testing environment has been built to test the tires in extreme conditions. The tires are tested as consistently as possible on various ice and snow tracks to test the performance during acceleration and braking or driving in turns and on hills and the grip on different surfaces on ice and snow.

The Ivalo testing center is our primary testing venue founded already in 1986. The tracks are made and shaped for our needs and we have the option to build different tracks every year on the frozen. There are 4 lakes in the test center area.

In addition to the carefully maintained test tracks, the center includes a 700-meter-long ice hall that enables consistent and accurate testing under any conditions. We can hold launch events for the newest winter tires at “White Hell” during winter to show our tires can handle even the most demanding conditions.
